CV Templates: Your Key to Landing an Interview

Using the best CV templates could make the curriculum vitae writing process a little easier. However, please note that this isn’t an excuse to create generic applications lazily. A CV template is supposed to act as a placeholder and provides you with the right structure. Yet you must only include information relevant to a specific job opening.

There are several good reasons to use a CV template. They can:

• Prevent you from procrastinating and ensure you start writing your CV.
• Suit a specific situation, whether you’re a graduate or someone who has been out of work for a while.
• Save you a whole load of time.

Yet you must also double-check each one for spelling and grammatical errors. Today, we divide CV templates into four categories. Each one has a specific purpose.

Modern CV Templates

It is certainly helpful to have an up-to-date design and the right fonts and sub-headings. However, a modern CV template doesn’t necessarily mean it must be modern-looking. Instead, it is a design that works well when applying for roles with an organisation that considers itself ‘modern.’

They are particularly useful if you’re in the IT industry. A prime example of a modern CV template involves using two columns on a page. The first page, for instance, might have your key skills on the left-hand side and your achievements on the right. When properly structured, it can include a huge amount of information while still ensuring the CV looks neat.

Creative CV Templates

When applying for positions in creative industries, the standard two-page CV with its ‘classic’ design isn’t good enough. Creative CV templates are sometimes bursting with colour and also have a standout vibrancy. Experiment to see if there are any innovative ways to include the most important information sensibly.

As you might expect, a creative CV template is ideal for roles involving art or design. However, it is a risky template and not one you should use for a business or finance role.

Professional CV Templates

The professional CV template is all business! It includes your qualifications, skills, achievements, and other relevant information in order. This type of CV involves the clever use of white space to list your details in a sophisticated manner.

In general, use the professional CV template when applying for jobs in the finance, legal, or accounting fields. It is particularly successful when looking for positions in multinational corporations.

Simple CV Templates

If you’re not sure which one to use, you can always fall back on the simple CV template. It consists of a classic design with your educational history, work experience, and skills included. You include your employment and academic histories in reverse chronological order. Candidates with minimal work experience emphasise their educational qualifications.

You can use the simple CV template for practically any field, barring perhaps creative industries. It is professional enough to meet big business standards and modern enough to appeal to technology companies. It is perhaps a little sober in tone for sectors such as fashion and design, however.
