Jobs in construction  are up 40% according to the latest IrishJobs.ie Jobs Index.

The Index, which tracks the number of jobs advertised online, recorded a year on year increase of 40% in jobs in the Construction, Architecture and Property sector.

Other sectors that saw yearly increases include legal jobs which are up 31% and jobs in the Hotel & Catering sector which increased by 21%.

Speaking about the index Orla Moran, General Manager of IrishJobs.ie, said

“Unemployment is currently at its lowest level in almost a decade and with jobs up 3% year on year it is welcome news for anyone thinking about looking for a new job. The construction sector is performing especially well at the moment with civil engineers, surveyors and project managers particularly in demand.”

Limerick performing well

One of the key findings in the Job Index was that Limerick has overtaken Dublin in terms of its vacancy rate. While statistics show that Dublin has 4.76 vacancies per 1,000 employed persons, Limerick boasted an impressive 5.22 vacancies. This is reflective of an increase in investment and job creation in the Munster city over the past year.

The data was prepared and analysed by economist Dr. Declan Curran and economic geographer Dr. Chris van Egeraat.
