Established in 1996, the Taxback Group is headquartered in Ireland with offices in Dublin and Kilkenny and employs over 950 staff across 20 countries.
Eoin Lyons is the Group Marketing & Communications Executive for The Taxback Group, he told us about his job and working with the Taxback Group.
1. What do you do?
I am the Group Marketing & Communication Executive for the Taxback Group, it’s the parent brand to a family of companies which provide finance, tax and travel services. Our global footprint encompasses 30 offices worldwide and e do business across 100 countries on a daily basis.
My role is essentially at the heart of driving marketing and communication at group level. While I do work alongside a group of marketing specialists who work for each of our 8 companies respectively, my role is solely concerned with promoting the group as a whole (internally and externally) and tying together all the great stuff we do companywide.
I work across a wide range of areas from social media to internal communications, from content creation to management of our corporate social responsibility program. Simply put, I strive to help create positivity within our organisation and tell all those great stories to the outside world.
2. Describe your typical working day?
I know it sounds cliché, but I can genuinely tell you that every day in The Taxback Group is different. Being involved in a various amount of projects really allows you to experience a ton of variety every day. Working with different people across different projects and areas makes every day a fresh new challenge. But the fact that it all ties back to that core mission of promoting the group, makes every task focused and achievable.
3. What are your qualifications?
I graduated from the University of Limerick back in 2013, with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) with Politics, New Media and Cultural Studies. After that I narrowed my aim towards the Marketing and Communications industry, so I completed a level 6 Diploma in Digital Marketing and Social Media from the Waterford Institute of Technology. And I’ve also recently just finished a level 6 course in Strategic Public Relations from WIT too. Never stop learning!
4. Tell us about your previous work experience?
Since leaving college I’ve been lucky enough to gain experience across a wide range of areas. When I first left college I began doing some sports writing for Pundit Arena, followed by a customer-focused role with Bank of Ireland. I then was lucky enough to become the social media coordinator for the Promenade Festival in Tramore, Co. Waterford in 2015. The festival attracted an estimated 50,000+ people over the course of a weekend and really encouraged me to continue in this industry.
I landed a communications role in Fidelity Investments soon after, working on communications, CSR, and events, before finally entering my current role over a year ago. I’m absolutely delighted to have ended up in this particular field.
5. What is the best thing about your job?
There’s a lot of great things about this job. The variety, the progression in responsibility, and the chance to constantly be creative are all terrific, but the best thing by far is simply the opportunity to really be involved in making a difference in here.
Through working directly with our Great Place To Work team on constantly improving employee culture, to being tasked with managing our charity initiatives, I really feel like I can have a positive impact both internally and externally. And I think that goes for everyone in here too – there’s a real culture of motivation.
6. And the biggest challenge?
Coming into a newly-created role and trying to promote a global brand was intimidating at first. I needed to communicate with a large amount of people across our various offices, and take in as much information as possible. There’s something really motivating about being given that much responsibility though.
What started as something which could have easily overwhelmed me, was made a source of real motivation and drives me on every day. And to be perfectly honest, with the amount of positivity in here and the quality of the services we provide across The Taxback Group, it makes telling the world how great we are much easier!
7. What advice would you give someone considering applying for a job with you?
I think the basics are really important for anyone who applies for a job with us. Research the company, research the role, know your CV inside out, and know what you can bring to the table. But above all else, come with ideas. You’ll hit the ground running in here, and you’ll be given every chance to develop. So the more you arrive with, the more you’ll achieve.
