West is a leading global manufacturer in the design and production on technologically advanced, high-quality, integrated containment and delivery systems for injectable medicines. We are a trusted partner to the world’s top pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies—working by their side to improve patient health.
West recently expanded its global manufacturing operations to include a new site in Waterford. The new facility will produce packaging components for injector cartridges and other high-value packaging components, to meet growing demand from pharmaceutical and biotech customers. The facility is approximately 20,500 square meters and situated at a 44-acre site. It was designed to accommodate expansion for multiple product lines in the future and was built in a campus layout to ensure flexibility to grow in all directions.
Waterford will be a centre of excellence for West’s proprietary elastomeric laminate sheeting, which is used to package insulin for use in pen injectors. Waterford will initially offer high value finishing for components, such as stoppers and plungers produced at other West facilities around the world. These services include pharmaceutical washing and inspection processes, such as Envision® verification, Westar® RS and Westar® RU, a specialized sterilization process. The Waterford facility currently employs over 90 people, with plans to continue hiring in 2018. The facility is currently preparing for commercial production, which is planned by year end.
Since 2005, West has had a presence in Ireland with its manufacturing and development centre in Dublin specialising in providing device design, development and manufacturing services for Pharmaceutical and Med-tech customers. Employing over 500 people at its Mulhuddart Dublin facility, the company recently completed a 60,000-square foot expansion in response to customer demand for increased manufacturing. The additional capacity has made it possible to service the Company’s growing healthcare and medical device contract manufacturing business, which is focused on supplying high quality molding and assembly solutions for the production of medical devices, such as auto injectors and continuous glucose monitoring systems.
The team in Dublin is focused on serving the needs of healthcare companies by providing a single-source solution from product conceptualization through manufacturing and final packaging. With a projected 100 new jobs being added in Dublin over the next six months, West is affirming its presence as an important employer in Ireland.
