Alkermes – an inspired place to work

Alkermes Athlone

Alkermes (“AL-ker-meez”) is a drug innovator, a global biopharmaceutical company with a focus on chronic diseases of the central nervous system (CNS). Our people are working to develop new medicines that address diseases including opioid addiction, depression and schizophrenia—some of the most urgent public health and mental illness challenges today.

We are in an exciting phase of growth, with a portfolio of products available now and a pipeline of potential medicines in development.

Our vision is to make a difference for patients through research, development and advocacy, and to expand our scientific and business base. To help us achieve this, we need to expand our community of Alkermes employees in every part of the organization. We’re looking for scientists with a thirst for discovery and development, and professionals to engage with healthcare providers and get important information regarding disease treatments to patients; we’re expanding our field sales and marketing teams; we need public health policy experts and economists, and people with the skills to manufacture our medicines; and we need more of the people who keep Alkermes running as a thriving, high performing organization.

We’re proud of our growth and performance but even more proud of the people behind our success. We invite you to explore our LinkedIn page and our corporate website to discover more about our company and our people, our values, our open positions, and how we strive to make difference for patients living with addiction and serious mental illness.

Good perks, interesting work, too many chiefs!

The Best Bits

Great mix of people between long time servants and new faces and contractors. Good pay and benefits. Interesting, fast paced work.

Things to improve

Far too top, a lot of people in token supervisory/management roles. Some equipment etc is also a little out of date.

Great company, would recommend highly

Anonymous in Athlone, County Westmeath, Ireland
current employee in Oct 2018

The Best Bits

Culture is very good, opportunities to learn are given.

Things to improve

Allowing progression, it can be very hard for people to progress up levels especially for those on the lower levels. Higher levels seem to have jobs created each year so new roles are there for progression while lower levels find it increasingly hard to progress and expectations are far higher to move up levels

I joined the company in January 2004, after working as a formulations scientist with ICI/Zeneca for ten years. Currently, I lead the Formulation Development (FD) group in Ireland as part of a global FD function. Working in this organization has given me the opportunity to work with like-minded, driven individuals who have a common goal to develop medications which ultimately may improve people’s lives.
