Established in 2004, the North Western Waters Advisory Council (NWWAC) is an organisation of stakeholders with specific interests in the offshore waters of the north west of Scotland, Irish Sea, Celtic Sea and the English Channel (i.e. ICES areas Vb, VIa and VII).
The organisation is established in Ireland as a Limited company under Irish Law and is supported by contributions from the European Union, Member States (i.e. BE, ES, FR, IE, NL, UK) and Stakeholders (i.e. fishing industry and other groups of interest).
The NWWAC actively produces independent advice on a variety of issues relevant to fisheries management and also acts to provide recommendations and opinions in response to requests from the European Commission and the Member States associated with the region.
The Secretariat of the NWWAC is hosted by the Irish Sea Fisheries Board (BIM) in Dublin, Ireland
