World Vision is the largest non-government, non-profit overseas aid and development organisation in the world, providing short and long-term assistance to 100 million people worldwide (including 2.4 million children).
We have 22,500 staff members working in 96 countries. For six decades, World Vision has been engaging people to work towards eliminating poverty and its causes. World Vision is committed to the poor. We work with people of all cultures, faiths and genders to achieve transformation. We do this through relief and development, policy advocacy and change, collaboration, education about poverty, and emphasis on personal growth, social justice and spiritual values.
Our work is project-based.
Relief work can be short-term, while rehabilitation and development may last up to ten years. While we might initiate a project or be invited, our work is always dependent on the consent of the communities involved. For some years, our approach has been to undertake projects involving clusters of communities, empowering people to become self-reliant through a range of activities that may include health improvements, agricultural training, small business workshops and leadership development. In consultation with the community, priorities are identified, a project designed and a budget prepared.
World Vision is only a partner in this process: we provide a safety net, technical support and finance. It is people themselves working towards their own development.
World Vision has the size, experience and expertise to respond immediately when disasters happen. Our goals are to protect children, save lives, reduce suffering, protect livelihoods, strengthen community resilience and promote peace. We are always ready to provide on-the-ground assistance to those affected and our involvement lasts longer than the headlines as we help give lasting solutions to communities in need. Over World Vision's 29 years in Ireland, it's been the generosity of ordinary people that's allowed us to play a major role in relief efforts throughout the world. Just in the past year couple of years, World Vision Ireland provided funding for new and ongoing disasters in 17 countries, including the flooding response in Pakistan, the earthquake in Haiti, Typhoon Haiyan and the conflicts in Syria and Gaza.
Through our work we see our vision becoming a reality for children every day:
World Vision believes that every child, regardless of gender, faith or race, is a precious gift to the entire world - and that their wellbeing concerns us all. We will never rest while children suffer in situations that can be changed.
We help poor communities to take charge of their futures.
In a fast-changing, mixed up world World Vision International is a powerful force for good that you can be a part of.
