The Best Bits

It's flexible for many employees. Less so for my position unfortunately. It is a relaxed environment.

Things to improve

Clarity of job description. Clarity of future career prospects.

Great Company- with Great Opportunities to grow career and skills

The Best Bits

Great Opportunities to Progress and Diversify, and lots of support to develop career. Strong Training Ethos many gone on to do Masters in Business and IT, 1 Week Scrum Boot camp roled out to all teams last year.We are encouraged to go for formal certifications like PMP, Cisco etc. Really like how the company focuses on working with the local institute of technology in Carlow. I believe up to 30% of the workforce are ex IT Carlow graduates, have the benefit of working for a Fortune 500 with out the hassle of gridlock and stressful commute to the city centre! The Ireland office gets lots of exposure for senior US leaders, the CEO and CIO have been onsite multiple times and appreciate our efforts to be innovative and entrepreneurial. The company does a ton of work in the community, teams get to choose what type of voluntary work they want to do, and Unum has a strong reputation with many local charities.

Things to improve

Would like leaders to listen to employees more, while we are encouraged to fail early and fail fast, it is not always appreciated if you do fail, and makes us less likely to take risks. I would also like for the Ireland operation to be more connected to the business and have some business functions here. Today we specialise mainly in IT. Unum is a benefits insurance company and I feel we could come up with better IT solutions for our business if we were closer to them.

The Best Bits

Some of the people there are really nice and friendly

Things to improve

Pretty much agree with 2 of the previous 3 post (one which gave 5 stars looks like it came from HR management), I have the same experience as the other 2 posts which tell what it's really like there. Some of the people there are really nice and friendly and good to work with, easy to commute to. There is no real budget for training and career progression is also not really something that you achieve there. The management is the Carlow office is really poor.
