The Irish Cancer Society is the national charity for cancer care in Ireland. It is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem and to improving the lives of those living with cancer, through patient care, research and education.
Patient care services include homecare nurses, night nurses, cancer liaison nurses and support groups. The Society organises public health promotion campaigns and provides continuing professional education to health professionals with an interest in cancer care. Through its division, Cancer Research Ireland, the Society is the largest voluntary funder of cancer research in Ireland. It also funds the Irish Clinical Oncology Research Group, the umbrella body for cancer specialists undertaking clinical trials. Action Breast Cancer (ABC) is a recently established project of the Society which is a “one stop” resource on all aspects of breast cancer, providing specialist information and support and funding leading edge breast cancer research. Its services are free and confidential.
