The Role:

The Digital Media Centre is looking for a Software Trials Administrator to work with a talented and close-knit team of researchers, developers and designers on a collaborative research project to enhance access to European cultural heritage resources (DECIPHER project http://decipher-research.eu). 

We want to make discovering, teaching and learning about art exciting!  The project is beginning field trials of its prototype software in 2013 and we are looking for a skilled administrator to help in their organisation. 

The successful candidate will be based in the Digital Media Centre in DIT Aungier Street.

Nature of the Post:

This is a fixed term contract until 31st December 2013.  The contract will run from date of employment until 31st December 2013 or earlier if the funding for this post comes to an end, whichever is the earlier. 

The provisions of the Dublin Institute of Technology Act, 1992 to 2006 and any subsequent Acts replacing or amending these Acts and any orders and regulations made under these Acts will apply.

Duties:

The duties will be determined by the project director/principal investigator and/or other Institute Staff as appropriate.

Main duties will include:

• To support the DIT’s role and contribution to the DECIPHER project
• To assist with the administration and evaluation of the DECIPHER project in software field trials
• To contribute to the preparation of project reports and provide feedback on project developments
• To support the organisation and implementation of the field trials of the Storyscope software and  provide feedback to the project team
• To promote Storyscope amongst appropriate user groups
• Other duties appropriate to the post as may be assigned from time to time.

Requirements:

Essential:
• An honours degree in an Information Technology or related discipline
• Minimum of two years experience of project management in multi-organisation teams
• Minimum one year experience testing and quality assurance in software development
• Must be familiar with basic software development cycles and testing
• Excellent Interpersonal skills and ability to work within a team

Desirable:
• Excellent Organisational Skills

Salary:

This post is aligned to the Research Administrator – Grade B salary scale (for pay purposes only).  Starting pay will be at the minimum of the scale:

€32,257 per annum

Remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy. 

Hours of work:

A five day, 37 hour week is in operation.  The normal working day will be 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. but some flexibility in terms of attendance outside of these hours will be required during field trial workshops and events away from the base of work.  Starting and finishing times will be as specified by the line Manager.

Probation:

A probationary period of 2 months from the date the individual commences work will apply.  The appointee will be advised on his/her performance during the period. At the end of probationary period the appointee may be confirmed in his/her appointment, continued on probation for a further period or at any time during the probationary period the appointment may be terminated.

Annual leave:

Annual Leave and Public Holidays shall be granted as per the Holidays (Employees) Act 1973 and Organisation of Working Time Act 1997.  While the annual leave for this post is currently 20 days per annum you will be comprehended by changes to Public Sector Annual Leave which will be notified, in the form of a Circular, to the Institute shortly.  All staff will be made aware of the relevant changes at that time.

Sick Leave:

Sick leave entitlement will be in line with the Dublin Institute of Technology’s policy for research/externally funded staff.  Up to 7 days in a rolling 2 year period, (but for no more than three consecutive days in any one period) of uncertified sick leave plus a maximum of 14 days certified sick leave per annum may be granted.  Pro rata sick lea.....
