Senior Program Manager Position, Chemistry

The Senior Program Manager - Program Management for Chemistry directs all phases of the development program, with primary responsibility to manage and control new and/or current business major programs for the Chemistry medical device product line, overseeing the product development process from initial business case development, to transfer into sustaining operations. This Program Manager position supports the Chemistry medical device product line of the Diagnostic Division of Beckman Coulter. The Senior Program Manager functions as the Core Team Leader of a cross-functional team with full responsibility for the project from both business and technical perspectives. They are accountable to the Product Business Decision Team (PBDT) for the success of the project. This position will be filled in Clare IRE.

The program manager:
• Applies advanced technical experience, skill and performance to the oversight of multiple projects, to achieve strategic goals through new product delivery and management of the product life cycle for key program and products.
• Maintains continuous alignment of program scope with strategic business objectives and possesses advanced skills in finance, leadership, communication, influence, cross-cultural awareness, negotiation and conflict resolution.
• Works cross-functionally and consults frequently with Manufacturing, Engineering, Research and Development, Quality, Regulatory and Marketing, in addition to other functional groups.
• Supports the strategic direction for the Chemistry product line , including intellectual property, regulatory, development, manufacturing, maintenance, and commercial support required to launch and achieve product line growth targets.
• Routinely communicates project goals, status, requirements, and deliverables to the Business Unit Product Planning Group
• Works closely with Business Unit management to define, support, and implement functional infrastructure to support the needs of the Chemistry business globally.

Key Accountabilities
• Manage the program through Core Team members and their Extended Teams to deliver robust, manufacturable products which meet the defined delivery timeline, design inputs and quality metrics to meet business unit goals.
• Directs Core Team project activities and resolves issues escalated to the Core Team
• Makes or facilitates project trade-off decisions within the boundaries of the PBDT approved project contract
• Is responsible for the budget, schedule, resource management, and performance of the program
• Communication focal point for the project to PBDT, Product Planning Group, and Functional Management
• Responsible for achievement of QCD (Quality, Cost, Delivery) metrics for their programs
• Identify and drive countermeasures in instances when project is overdue or exceeding budget
• Establish and monitor use of tools for project tracking and management
• Establishes project milestones and monitors adherence to master plan
• Ensures compliance to Beckman Coulter and Danaher policies and procedures
• Applies project management processes to achieve the highest performance and value added effort
• Works effectively with all team members, stakeholders and supervisor
• Coaches and develops team members as necessary to assure common understand of the product development process and project goals
• Effectively communicates and maintain visual tools for project tracking and management
• Effectively employs Danaher Business System (DBS) tools and concepts to maximize efficiency and quality
Key Skills and Competencies:
• Bachelor's degree in Life Science, Engineering, Medical device business management or related field with 14 plus years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree with 12 years of relevant experience. MBA is a significant plus.
• Work experience should include people management experience and 3-7 years in program / project management leading multi-disciplined projects. A minimum of 2-5 years in program or project management is required.
• Proven track record with system and or reagent product development/ project management
• Demonstrated leadership in product development projects and project management ability (required)
• Minimum of 5-10 years of relevant work experience in scientific or engineering management; a minimum of 2-5 years in program or project management (required).
• Project management Professional (PMP) certification or similar certification such as Kepner Tregor PM training is strongly recommended.
• Expert user of Microsoft Project
• Strong motivational leadership skills and the ability to influence others without direct authority (required).
• ISO and FDA regulated environment experience is strongly recommended.
• Fast learner able to quickly become adept at using the Danaher Business System tool set
• Readily accepts responsibility and accountability for project success and key decisions
• Ability to travel is mandatory (domestic and internationally) likely 20-40% of time

Additional Considerations

This leader will also demonstrate the courage required to balance successfully the quality / timeliness polarity of superior Program Management and drive teams to succeed, or have the courage to change directions appropriately, as the facts present themselves. As senior staff, this candidate must possess proven ability to mentor and lead as well as skills in charting the course of the PMO for future state.
  
Qualifications
