The Role:

Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the post of Senior Post Doctoral Fellow (2 posts) within the Centre for Applied Data Analytics Research (CeADAR).

The Centre for Applied Data Analytics Research (CeADAR) is collaboration between UCD, DIT and UCC. The research team will conduct research in the area of data analytics and will develop demonstration applications in cooperation with an industry consortium. The research at DIT will have a particular focus on the development of novel interfaces for analytics-based systems.

Nature of the Post:

This is a 5 year fixed purpose contract which will run from date of employment until the end of the fixed purpose or on an earlier date if the funding for this post comes to an end, whichever is the earlier. The purpose of this post is to conduct research in the area of data analytics.
The provisions of the Dublin Institute of Technology Act, 1992 to 2006 and any subsequent Acts replacing or amending these Acts and any orders and regulations made under these Acts will apply.

Key Duties:

• Conduct a specific programme of research and scholarship under the leadership of your Principal Investigator/Senior member of academic staff
• Disseminate the outcomes of this research and scholarship including peer‐reviewed academic publications of international standing.
• Assist in the further development of the research programme
• Where appointed to do so by DIT, supervise graduate research students as co‐supervisor.
• Take responsibility for, manage and conduct administrative and management tasks associated with the programme of research.
• Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities as required by your Principal Investigator.
• Play an active role in knowledge and technology transfer activities.
• Prepare and present findings of research activity to colleagues for review purposes.
• Submit papers to appropriate journals and attend and present findings at appropriate conferences.
• Prepare progress reports on research for funding bodies as required. Seek new areas of research and prepare and submit research bids and proposals that will enhance the reputation of DIT.
• Participate fully in the wider research and scholarly activities of the Research Centre/Institute and College/School.
• The postholder will carry out any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the line manager or Director of the College/School.
• The postholder will actively follow all DIT policies and regulations, and maintain an awareness and observation of Research Ethics, and Health and Safety Regulations.


DIT welcome applications from candidates who do not have a current or previous employment relationship with the Institute and who meet the following requirement:

• PhD or equivalent research experience (including industrial R&D) in computer science, maths, engineering or closely related discipline.
• Experience in designing and developing a research programme
• Evidence of a strong research profile and publication record
• Knowledge of data analytics methods and experience in managing and processing large volumes of data
• Ability to identify and fulfil the academic writing requirements for target publications
• Commitment to high quality research.
• Experience in software development, particularly in the implementation of machine learning algorithms, user interfaces or visualisation tools
• Proven, excellent programming skills – both front-end and back-end across a range of languages
• Knowledge of the ways in which data analytics methods are applied in industry
• Demonstrated understanding of the operational requirements for a successful research project and managing resources
• Knowledge of some current state-of-the-art commercial data analytics tools 
• Experience working as a post doctoral researcher
• Experience of designing and running user trials
• Experience of working with industry partners on research projects
