Description

Research Nurse

We are seeking a Research Nurse to work with the UCD HIV Molecular Research Group (HMRG) in an operational support and knowledge dissemination role. This exciting position offers the successful candidate the opportunity to become involved with two cutting-edge clinical research studies. HIV UPBEAT is an HRB-funded cohort study of approximately 500 subjects and aims to examine bone health in HIV positive subjects compared to HIV negative volunteers from a similar demographic background. HIV UPBEAT study visits occur on an annual basis and involve questionnaire completion, fasting blood sampling and a DXA scan, all of which take place at the Clinical Research Centre at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital campus. M-BRiHT is a pharma-funded prospective randomised trial of recruitment methods in an Emergency Department HIV screening programme. To date it has recruited over 1000 patients. Detailed pre-test counselling is delivered via an interactive tablet PC followed by a rapid point of care test for HIV. To date it has a 76% acceptability rate among patients in the Emergency Department in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital. It is the first such screening programme in Europe.

The HMRG research nurse will be expected to provide operational support to these two projects. The knowledge dissemination role will entail development of and on-going project management of a knowledge dissemination strategy. This knowledge dissemination will involve engagement with internal and external stakeholders with the ultimate aim of increasing awareness of the UPBEAT and M-BRiHT studies among key patient groups, community based organisations and healthcare professionals.
