Project Engineer - South Africa - Power Plant Construction Project

 

Shanahan Engineering is an established engineering services company operating in the Power Generation sector. We provide specialist project and construction management services operating worldwide, with projects in over twenty-five countries. We currently require a Project Engineer on a very large Power Plant Construction Project in South Africa. This is one of the world’s largest construction projects and offers an excellent opportunity to build you experience and develop your career within an internationally recognised company. Key responsibilities will include:

-    Attend Morning planning/logistics meeting in order to assist logistics & erection crews with material requirements for the day.

-    Ensure that a full set of the latest revisions of drawings required for planning of structural steel erection are maintained in the planning office.

-    Plan Pre-Assemblies/Workpacks of structural steel members so as to minimise crane lifts and aid number of members erected daily.

-    Mark-up general arrangement drawings outlining Pre-Assemblies and Workpacks and distribute to erection crews.

-    Compile lists of material required for PA's and WP's and communicate to logistics, pre-assembly team, draughtsmen and erection crews.

-    Conduct site audits in order to track material erection status and maintain accurate records.

-    Use of 3D Model viewer in order to confirm that member connections are suitable for pre-assembly and determination that PA's can be erected with ease.

-    Liaise with erection crew superintendents in order to align planning activities with erection crew activities.

-    Liaise with draughtsmen in control of 3D model in order to obtain all necessary documentation needed to aid pre-assembly of structural steel members before lifting. (Bolts lists, structural steel member lists, site plates lists, site cleats lists.)

-    Liaise with planning co-ordinators in order to implement a schedule for the erection of structural steel and align this schedule with necessary pipework installations in order to provide a realistic schedule for construction.

-    Compile procedures for bolting protocols in order to ensure that the protocols are conducted in accordance with site specifications.

-    Obtain bolt lists for the member connections contained on each elevation of the boiler and compile bolting protocol sheets, which are distributed to the bolting protocol team.

-    Supervise bolting protocol team in order to ensure that the documentation is completed accurately and in full.

-    Ensure that complete bolting protocol sheets are delivered to QC for checking and sign-off.

-    Conduct inventory of gratings on site to ensure material availability.

-    Compile checklists and procedures for signing-off each level of the structural steel on the boiler before loading with ducting etc. so that each member of the team is informed of their duties and that QC are satisfied with the documentation.

-    Archiving of all documentation required for bolting protocols and pre-loading so that the company maintain accurate records of activities on-site.

-    Prepare documentation for and attend daily site meeting in order to report on progress to date and escalate any issues that may be restricting progress.

-    Attend meetings with IT personnel in order to assist in the development of a database in order to store all information regarding PA's and WP's, which will aid in the planning, logistics, erection status and material requirements

-    Any other duties required by company management
