Description

Postdoctoral Research Fellow level 1 or 2

Systems Biology Ireland (SBI; http://www.ucd.ie/sbi/) focuses on elucidating the design principles of regulatory networks in mammalian cells and applying this knowledge to important questions in biology and biomedicine, such as cell fate decisions. A main aim of SBI’s research is to develop and apply computational models based on biological data to open new avenues for understanding and treatment of human diseases.  Ongoing projects include the spatiotemporal dynamics and statistical analysis of signalling and transcriptional networks that govern cell proliferation, differentiation and motility. The post-holder will work on bioinformatics of cell regulatory networks and assembling and reconstructing network models for key cellular processes in normal and cancer cells. She or he will apply bioinformatics approaches to large datasets from gene array, ChIP-seq and proteomics experiments in order to reconstruct regulatory networks that govern cell differentiation and transformation. The work on this project will require a deeper understanding of both cytoplasmic signalling networks and gene regulatory networks that are inherently stochastic processes, such as transcriptional control on the single cell level. The project will require using bioinformatics and statistical tools to work with large network models that will be tested using large data sets.  In order to enhance or modelling capacities in this area, we want to expand our team by a staff member with expertise of using bioinformatics,  probabilistic and data driven modelling approaches to analyse biological systems.
