The Role:

Hothouse, the Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre at Dublin Institute of Technology, has an immediate opportunity for a Marketing Officer to conduct market research on DIT technologies to licence, develop licensing opportunities and marketing plans for potential start-up companies, create marketing materials in video, online and print formats, and run large promotional and networking events.

Nature of the Post:

This is a 5 year fixed purpose contract which will run from date of employment until the end of the fixed purpose or on an earlier date if the funding for this post comes to an end, whichever is the earlier.  The purpose of this post is to identify and engage potential licensees for the Dublin Region Innovation Consortium (DRIC - consisting of DIT, ITT, ITB, IADT and NCI) technologies, to create marketing materials and run large promotional and networking events.  This post is associated with the Technology Transfer Strengthening Initiative programme supported by Enterprise Ireland. 

The provisions of the Dublin Institute of Technology Act, 1992 to 2006 and any subsequent Acts replacing or amending these Acts and any orders and regulations made under these Acts will apply.

Main Duties:
• Conduct market research and manage external marketing consultants to assess the value and market opportunity for various inventions and technologies, develop related marketing plans for start-up companies
• Develop the marketing plan, campaign and related/innovative promotional materials, in alignment with DIT strategy, to help commercialise the technologies on offer and promote the Hothouse Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre across DIT and with key stakeholders outside DIT
• Organise and run networking and promotional and information events including conferences, showcases, etc. for the Hothouse Innovation and Technology Transfer Centre, within DIT and for key stakeholders outside DIT
• Work closely with the Directorate of Research and Enterprise (DRE) and the DIT Public Affairs Office of DIT to ensure a seamless and coherent marketing strategy, plan and promotional materials
• Maintaining and updating the DIT/DRE web and any other promotional materials as appropriate and as required
• Participate in other Directorate of Research and Enterprise events/activities as appropriate and as required


• Degree in Marketing
• Demonstrated knowledge of marketing best practices and proven ability to create winning marketing campaigns and run successful marketing events
• High level of knowledge in the area of  marketing ICT/ engineering/biomedical science/technology developments
• Ability to evaluate market potential for new products – revenue, expense and return on investment analyses
• Strong software application skills, including but not limited to: MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint; Web-based information retrieval

• Masters Degree in Marketing
• Ability to develop and recommend marketing strategies for academic inventions
• Ability to process multiple projects
• Ability to work closely with academic investigators
• Excellent listening, oral presentation and writing skills


This post is aligned to the Research Administrator – Grade C salary scale (for pay purposes only).  Starting pay will be at the minimum of the scale:

€45,781 per annum

Remuneration may be adjusted from time to time in line with Government pay policy. 

Hours of work:

A five day 37 hour week is in operation. Starting and finishing times will be as specified by your Manager.


A probationary period of 12 months from the date the individual commences work will apply.  The appointee will be advised on his/her performance during the period. At the end of probationary period the appointee may be confirmed in his/her appointment, continued on probation for a further period or at any time during the probationary period the appointment may be terminated.

Annual leave:

20 days per annum excluding any concession days th.....
