Nature of the Post:

This post is a fixed term contract commencing on date of appointment and ceasing at the end of the fixed term or earlier if the funding comes to an end.

The provisions of the Dublin Institute of Technology Act, 1992 to 2006 and any subsequent Acts replacing or amending these Acts and any orders and regulations made under these Acts will apply.

The Role:

The successful candidate will join the award winning Dublin Institute of Technology Learning Teaching and Technology Centre (LTTC). Together with the members of the LTTC team they will share responsibility for the provision of a range of professional development opportunities and supports for the DIT academic community. 

A key role of this post will be the co-ordination of the DIT Post Graduate Diploma Programme in Third Level Learning & Teaching that is also offered to external higher education staff.  In addition, they will teach and supervise on a number of LTTC postgraduate short courses/programmes in third level learning and teaching, engage in educational research to publishable standards as well as provide training workshops and consultancy supports for academic staff. 

The position provides an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to work on a range of learning, teaching and assessment projects and initiatives within various Higher Education contexts. 


Reporting to the Head of the DIT Learning Teaching & Technology Centre, the post holder will:

• Coordinate the Postgraduate Diploma in Third Level Learning and Teaching 
• Design, develop and facilitate workshops, short courses and/or modules on programmes offered by the LTTC
• Undertake education research to publishable standards
• Supervise Masters Students who are undertaking educational research
• Contribute to LTTC Programme Team responsibilities
• Provide consultative support in learning, teaching and assessment to the DIT academic community through liaison with Schools & Departments, Programme Teams,  working with individual academic staff, and by collaborating on specific projects e.g. Teaching Fellowships
• Represent the LTTC on relevant DIT committees
• Work with LTTC and DIT staff to implement institutional strategic plan actions relevant to areas of learning, teaching & assessment
• Network within DIT, nationally and internationally in the promotion of developments in teaching, learning and assessment practice
• Participate in their own continuing professional development as appropriate



• Have a first or second class honors degree (or equivalent) in an appropriate discipline & a postgraduate qualification in an appropriate discipline at least to Masters level
• Have a minimum of three years relevant experience in education following completion of primary degree.  This experience must include teaching experience
• Experience of Programme co-ordination
• Active educational research and publication experience
• Experience of working on Curriculum Development


• Have PhD or EdD in a relevant discipline
• Be a member of AISHE, SEDA or equivalent educational professional body.
• Teaching experience in HE
• Experience of working with staff at all levels
• Experience of working as part of a Team in an educational environment
• Experience of supporting student learning using Virtual Learning Environments and /or other appropriate technologies
• Proven Facilitation and Team Working skills
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Effective written and oral communication skills
• Excellent organisational and planning skills
• Proficient in Microsoft office applications
• Prepared to take the lead on a project when necessary
• A motivated, innovative, self starter
• Ability to work on own initiative
• Ability to work to tight deadlines and produce work to a high standard
