My client requires a Lead J2EE Engineer, 7 years development experience, Hibernate, JUint, EJB3 and Spring, Dublin city centre, 6 month contract, good daily rates.

Detailed Description

The client:

Is a market leading solutions provider with offices based in Dublin.


This is an Engineering Lead role requiring very strong technical and architectural skills and strong communications. The Senior J2EE Engineer Lead will have overall responsibility for all technical aspects of our systems, the architectural decisions, estimations, code reviews, daily management of an external software development team, liaising with contractors and outsourced partners, reporting to project managers and managing internal stakeholders. Very strong J2EE Skills are essential as is a working knowledge of Spring and Hibernate. A good knowledge of Oracle or similar relational database and knowledge of web frameworks is desirable. Experience of the eLearning sector would be an advantage. Exposure to and knowledge of software release management techniques and interfacing with a QA department as part of any major software development projects is expected. Although this is primarily not a hands on development role, it requires a very strong software development background as individuals will be expected to be familiar with all technical aspects and build procedures of their assigned systems. This Senior J2EE position reports to a Team Lead Engineer and is located in our Dublin office.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead all phases of development from definition and design through implementation, debugging, testing and rollout.
  • Provide technical leadership to an external software development team and take ownership for component design, development and maintenance.
  • Day to day management of external developers on a range of projects.
  • Analyse and estimate change requests as well as new development.
  • Responsible for code reviews and technical quality standards from their external team.
  • Weekly Reporting to Team Lead Engineer.
  • Assist in defining structured practices especially in source code management, build & deployment automation and release management.
  • Management of communication between project managers, internal stakeholders and external development teams.


  • 7 years enterprise Java J2EE development experience. 
  • Requires a very strong level of interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Experience of technical leadership of software developers.
  • Experience of the Hibernate, JUnit, EJB3 and Spring Frameworks.
  • Experience front end technologies like Flex & Adobe Flash.
  • Experience of relational databases, preferably Oracle, etc.
  • Experience of Apache 2, JBoss, OpenDS (LDAP), & other App servers.
  • Experience of UNIX, preferably Solaris, Linux is a plus.
  • Software build experience and experience to continuous integration environments, especially Maven, & SVN . Bamboo is a nice to have.
  • Practical knowledge of Source Control Management, specifically branching, tagging and merging of different code streams.
  • Experience of interfacing with project management.
