Graphic Designer

The Role

We need a designer who loves working with and communicating data visually; somebody who's fed up with the traditional, dull selection of pie, bar and line charts and is ready to do some of the phenomenal work leading lights at the New York Times, the Guardian and others are doing. You'll be designing layouts, elements, colour schemes, and other infographic components, but you'll also be translating data into live infographics to demonstrate GetBulb's core competence to the world. There will be some content marketing attached to the role; this will entail making beautiful infographics and talking about them on our company blog. You should have a sense of the interactivity online infographics offer, but there's no need to have hands-on experience of creating online works (but if you do, wonderful!).

Key Attributes

Demonstrated ability to visualise data in a way that tells complex, data-driven stories in a compelling and easily understood way

Curiosity and ambition to push the current state of the art and liberate data visualisation from an obscure technique to a tool available to all

Attention to detail

Love for communicating data-rich stories to others

Comfortable working in a multi-disciplinary team

Ability to self-manage based on high-level task descriptions

Comfortable working in extremely dynamic environments

Key requirements

Ideally you'll have a portfolio of infographics you'll have created to date, and be able to name and discuss some inspiring infographics from the history of the field. But even if you just have an interest and an itch in getting to know more, please get in touch.

If you don't have a portfolio of infographics, ideally you'll have a third level qualification in design

Strong intuitive sense of how to visualise data and what tools are best suited for doing so

Working knowledge of data visualisation principles and practice

Key Skills

Experience with the following tools and technologies:

Adobe Illustrator or equivalent vector-based illustration software

Adobe Photoshop or equivalent pixmap-based illustration software

Interactive presentation tools such as Keynote, Flash, Hype or others

Some HTML/CSS/Javascript experience would be ideal but not essential if you're willing to learn how to apply these in principle

Some content marketing experience would be very helpful

A strong portfolio is a minimum requirement; an infographics portfolio is a strong plus
