Reporting to: Commercial Product Manager

Term: November 2012 – September 2013

Hours of work: 37.5 hour per week, 9-5.30pm

Executive Summary:

The Sage Ireland Graduate Programme will offer one intern place to a recent Graduate to give them hands on experience and an insight into the workings of a fast moving Product Management function in a large organisation.

Under the guidance of the Product Management team, the candidate will participate in and take ownership of a number of projects and initiatives across a wide range of disciplines related to the development, launch and maintenance of products within Sage’s range of products and services. Over the course of the Graduate Programme the successful candidate will come away with a clear understanding of all aspects of the job. There will also be an opportunity to work on a number of key projects which require research and development outside of the day to day tactical activities of the team.

About the Product Management Team:

The Product Management team is a fast paced, commercially focused division, which consists of 5 Product Managers who report to the Head of Product Marketing.

The team works very closely together to build relationships with our new and existing customers in order to engage with them and encourage them to purchase from Sage. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support the Product/Service Management Team and their associated product and services as they transition through their life cycle from development to market. Tasks include:
  • Coordination of meetings to include time tracking, recording of minutes and actions
  • Act as the coordination point between product management, marketing and Sales
  • Analysis of product and services revenue and units, new trial creations and conversions on a monthly basis
  • Assist Product Management in the execution of Sage’s product and service strategy
  • Ensure that the web site and brochure content is up to date with current product and service offerings
  • Creation of Powerpoint presentations
  • Identify market and customer needs, trends, competitive landscape, and market forces so as to uncover opportunities for creating product and service enhancements as well as new product and service offerings
  • Assist Product Management with the Release Process by coordinating Release meetings, monitoring the Release plan, follow up on actions from meetings, and liaise with the Release Team in the UK in providing information when requested.
  • Develop propositions which support the business strategy for retention, upgrade and new business acquisition
    • Communicate the product/service benefits, features and target markets, and in general championing the product to internal teams such as sales, marketing, support and executives as well as customers and press
    • Engage with customers to discuss requirements
    • Business analysis: Aid Product/Service Management decision-making process by defining and analysing measures of success to achieve strategic goals. Analyse pipeline, revenue and other data for business planning and monitoring purposes.
    • Work closely with the Sage Ireland Marketing department in the commercialisation of our products and assist them to carry out the activities of outbound messaging including the creating of collateral such as datasheets, brochures, website, flash presentations, press packages, etc.
    • Undertake competitor review and analysis
    • Represent the company at external events such as seminars, product user groups, other events as appropriate
    • Work on ad-hoc commercial projects that involve a product focus.

 Knowledge, Skills and Experience gained upon completion of the Programme:

The success of software and technology products depends heavily on the unique skill sets, knowledge and competence of product managers. Product Managers must have the ability to manage products strategically and tactically, from inception through to launch but also throughout the product lifecycle.

 Essential Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Qualification in Business Studies, Business Administration or other relevant course/training
  • Customer focused with a commercial acumen
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organisation
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, effectively balancing resources to meet deadlines
  • Proven ability to work at a detailed level and make recommendations based on quantitative and qualitative data
  • Strong aptitude to learn technical products
  • A keen interest in Software
  • Strong Microsoft office skills
  • Demonstrated capacity for developing and understanding strategy.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
