Senior Software Engineering Manager (12-month Maternity Cover)


  • Technical manager with hands on experience
  • Conversant with design principles. Understands and is able to challenge architecture decisions
  • Able to understand requirements, make assumptions and come up with Effort levels.
  • Able to work with product owners to prioritize features and releases.
  • Communicates effectively with customers.
  • Manage day to day team and organize team for various dev and support activities
  • Technology: java, shell, python, understanding of Docker/Containers
  • Production Support – Have experience in organizing team to provide production support and provide inputs on Sev calls.




Functioning as a force multiplier, the Senior Software Engineering Manager drives reliability, manageability, and security into deliverables while managing costs and schedules. He or she exhibits and utilizes a broad range of software development capabilities and techniques to deliver milestones predictably and with expected levels of quality, while working with program stakeholders to assure expectations (schedule and quality) and acceptance criteria are clearly defined and achievable.


In addition, he or she communicates technical issues in terms of customer impact based on business priorities. Importantly, they share knowledge willingly and enable others to be more productive. They identify and resolve performance and data integrity issues (both pre- and post-production) and impart knowledge about how software tools, applications, and systems work from a variety of viewpoints (including but not limited to, feature design, system interaction, networking, configuration, administration and security), which provides the basis for sound engineering decisions, troubleshooting, and software maintenance skills.


Sr. Software Managers understand the end to end business requirements for their assigned programs and actively work to enhance the utility and capabilities of the product. By proactively staying up-to-date with new technology, they contribute to the identification and resolution of program/project issues, quickly identify risk items related to overall deployment infrastructure and network configuration. They also continually manage and track release activities and are available during all production deployments. Managing costs and resources in accordance with program objectives is also included.



Specific Technology Expertise

  • Advanced knowledge of file system caching and I/O characteristics.
  • Ability to work with low level memory management of the OS to help diagnose complex compatibility issues.
  • Extensive experience in ATG e-commerce technologies, notably the commerce framework, and BCC content management modules.
  • Skilled at problem solving, unit-testing and debugging, including automated test generation using Junit.
  • In-depth understanding of the Java programming language (1.5 or higher).
  • Extensive experience using one or more Java EE application servers (specifically JBoss & WebLogic).
  • Knowledge of RDBMS systems and an understanding of data structures, data normalization, and query performance considerations.
  • Experience with SQL including Query performance and optimization.
  • Experience with AJAX and JQuery.
  • Experience using one or more IDEs (e.g., IntelliJ, Eclipse, NetBeans, JDeveloper).
  • Familiarity with JMS, JNDI, JDBC.
  • Extensive experience using XML technologies (XSL, XSLT, XSD).
  • Extensive use of Ant and Maven build management and deployment.
  • Experience using SSL.
  • Expert level knowledge of Linux/Unix systems.
  • Experience with Unix shell scripting.
  • Knowledge of J2EE design patterns, ecommerce Design patterns and methodologies.
  • Understanding of classical and modern software development lifecycles and methods.
  • Experience using SVN subversion.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts pictorially, orally or in writing.
  • Ability to learn business rules quickly by reading requirements, engaging in conversation, or reverse engineering.


  • A BS in Computer Science or a related field with more than 10 years of work experience or Master’s Degree equivalent.
