Clinical Research Fellow Panel


St. Patrick's University Hospital is seeking applications from suitably qualified candidates to form a panel of fixed term Clinical Research Fellow’s to fill any vacancies that may arise from 8th July 2013 to 12th January 2014.  

Successful applicants will be placed on a panel and appointments will be made on a fixed-term basis subject to operational requirements.


The successful applicants will:
Hold a recognised primary degree in medicine
Be in the process of completing, or preferably have successfully completed, all components of the MRCPsych exams
Have a minimum of four years experience after primary medical qualification
Hold current registration or be eligible for registration with the Irish Medical Council


In the event of appointment, the successful candidate will provide a specialist service to patients of SPUH/SEH on behalf of the hospital as directed by the Medical Director, the successful applicant will as part of the post, be offered appointments at the Department of Psychiatry in Trinity College Dublin as a Clinical Teacher or Honorary Lecturer depending on their experience.  They may also be required to assist in the teaching duties of the TCD Department of Psychiatry.  
The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to choose and develop their research ideas from the areas of psychotherapy, psychosis, medical education, mood disorder, community psychiatry, addictive disorders, eating disorder & younger adult mental health, psychiatric epidemiology, capacity and consent, intensive care psychiatry, old age psychiatry and emergency psychiatric assessment.  Weekly protected research time will also be offered.

JOB DESCRIPTION


Job Title: Clinical Research Fellow (full-time, fixed term)  

Reporting to: Medical Director

Place of Work: St Patrick’s University Hospital, James’s Street, Dublin 8, incorporating St. Edmundsbury Hospital Lucan and the Dean Clinics 

Main Purpose:   To provide specialist service to patients of SPUH/SEH on behalf of the hospital as directed by the Medical Director 

Hours of Work:           The standard working week applying to the post is 39 hours
          
Duties:
- Diagnose and treat patients under the supervision of consultant medical staff
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests
- Initiate and monitor treatment
- Instigate discussions with patients and relatives
- Undertake agreed research project under the guidance of the assigned educational supervisor.  
- Produce a completed research project by end of contract. 
- Assist in the teaching duties of the TCD Department of Psychiatry as designated
