• Must hold current registration, or be eligible for registration, with An Bord Altranais

o Have a minimum of 5 years post-registration experience, and ideally at least 3 of which are in child and adolescent mental health nursing.

o Have one years experience of management at CNM1 level or equivalent.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Clinical Nurse Manager II (Adolescent Unit)(fixed term)

Reporting to: Director of Nursing or designate, including CNMIII

Place of Work: Willow Grove Adolescent Unit, St. Patrick’s University Hospital, James’s Street, Dublin 8,Incorporating St Edmundsbury Hospital, Lucan, the Dean Clinics and other services operated by St. Patrick’s University Hospital  

Main Purpose:  As part of a multidisciplinary team the post holder will have responsibility for assessment of care needs and evaluation of programmes of care ensuring the delivery of high quality care to patients. The post holder will have continuing responsibility for the management of a ward area including supervision and deployment of staff and conflict resolution. S/he will be expected to carry out all relevant forms of care in partnership with patients, carers and other professionals and in line with agreed standards and clinical policies. The nursing team within the Adolescent Inpatient Unit provides recovery based care using the Therapeutic Milieu Model.

Hours of Work: The standard working week applying to the post is 37.5 hours.

Duties:

• Developing and leading in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care on the adolescent unit.

• Setting, monitoring and evaluating standards of care within the defined policies, procedures, standards and protocols of the adolescent unit and Service to ensure adherence to, and delivery of a high quality service. This will include the regular audit and monitoring of clinical practice to ensure quality standards are maintained.

• Carrying out all relevant forms of nursing care pertinent to the needs of the patient group within the defined clinical areas in accordance with relevant legislation. E.G  Mental Health Act 2001.

• Using and promoting the Therapeutic Milieu model to empower people to realise and maintain their potential in relation to health and wellbeing.

• Assessing, critically appraising and applying the evidence base for practise within the adolescent unit and promoting the development of evidence based practice.

• Assuming responsibility for the management of daily operational responsibilities in the unit including, staff recruitment, work allocation, deployment and supervision of staff to ensure smooth running of the Unit.

• Ensuring that all nursing staff are aware of and work within the policies and procedures of the specialist adolescent mental health service to ensure that safe working practices are maintained for both patients and staff.  Monitoring and auditing of organisational policies and procedures.

• Supporting the effective management of clinical and environmental risk on a day to day basis.

• Maintaining accurate records of nursing care in accordance with relevant legislation and ensuring all patient records comply with agreed record keeping standards and participate in associated audit activity.

• Supervising supporting and formally appraising the practice of less experienced staff both qualified and unqualified, and providing relevant support which might be required to address professional capability issues.

• Identifying staff training needs and ensuring that staff access mandatory training.

• Undertaking teaching of qualified and unqualified nursing staff, including basic and post-basic students, and participating in the implementation of staff personal development plans to ensure staff acquire the knowledge and skills to competently carry out their role.
