The Building Services Engineer will be a central role in the agency, managing local and national contracts for energy performance upgrades.

 

Job Title: Building Services Engineer / Designer

Salary : €48,000 to €58,000 + Expenses, Laptop & Phone

Location: TEA offices , Cahir or Nenagh, Co Tipperary

Start Date: TBC

Contract Type: Full Time Fixed Term – 36 months

Relocation Package On Offer.

Background

The TEA works on a wide range of projects which require multi-disciplined teams and skills.  The mission of the Agency is to “lead and support Co. Tipperary to reduce its CO2  emissions by stimulating and implementing best practise in the field of sustainable energy”.  The Agency, one of Irelands leading social enterprises,  provides a range of energy services to its clients including Sustainable Building Design, Building Energy Rating, Sustainable Transport Service, Renewable Energy Development and others.

The Tipperary Energy Agency is embarking on a three year energy transformation project of Tipperary’s housing, commercial, public and community buildings called Sustainable Tipp. This project, due to commence in August will utilise a variety of local, national and European funded supports to grant aid the implementation of wide spread energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. The TEA wish to appoint an experienced Building services engineer/ designer to work with the other staff to implement this ambitious project. The role is initially for a period of 36 months with an option to extend and eventually permanency. The role, as with all TEA roles, will be based on workload available in the agency. This role may involve one or more of the below topics:

1.            Building Energy Upgrades: This role will include all facets of energy management from energy audits, project management of energy efficiency and renewable energy feasibility studies to project implementation. The Engineer will focus on designing and implementation of building energy upgrades (Heat pumps, Biomass, Lighitng, CHP, PV, Etc.). The Engineer will be expected to work with other TEA staff to drive projects and demonstrate strategic leadership on delivery of projects. Your role in the TEA will be energy auditing, understanding client requirements, completion of drawings, design for energy project upgrades, procurement and project management.

2.            Consultancy in the public and private sectors: The Enegineer is expected to be able to liaise directly with client senior management, develop bespoke client centred solutions and ensure delivery to a high standard on time on budget. This role also includes the development of new and existing relationships in the public, private, research and policy development sectors in line with the TEA’s mission statement.

Building Services Designer/ Engineer 

The Engineer will be a central role in the agency, managing local and national contracts for energy performance upgrades. More specifically the Engineer will be responsible for

  • Delivering deep energy retrofits including renewables.
  • Designing Lighting, HVAC and renewable energy installations.
  • Use of Software packages to ensure best practice upgrades.
  • Managing (and hands on Implementation) of large energy upgrade projects including heat pumps, CHP, Biomass, PV, District heating etc.)
  • Driving the improvement of the TEA’s delivery and systems for client centred outcomes.
  • Renewable energy & Energy Efficiency:
  • Feasibility studies and energy audits on buildings and facilities
  • Project implementation and project management.
  • Energy project design and specification.
  • Managing energy performance contracts.
  • Other Project work
  • The TEA has a large number of projects and clients and other energy related tasks will be required as needed.

Candidate Requirements

The successful candidate will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Graduate Degree in building services engineering/ or related technical discipline with relevant experience
  • 5 years experience as a practicing Building services engineer/ consultant.
  • Excellent Communications skills.
  • Strong IT and analytical skills.
  • Use of Autocad IES, Homer, Dialux would be a distinct advantage.
  • Self-starter and self-motivated.
  • Project management experience
  •  Experience (5+ years) in one or more of the following sustainable energy disciplines:
  • Building services engineering with specific reference to sustainable energy implementation (Biomass boilers & Heat pumps).
  • Lighting Design (interior and exterior) using modern efficient equipment and controls.
  • Consultancy at a senior level in the public and private sectors.

The following would be an advantage

  • HVAC Design, of building Heat pump design and integration in buildings.
  • Public Sector Energy Management
  • Building energy retrofit or other Renewable energy project implementation.
  • Specific knowledge of Climate change and how energy use impacts it.
