Enable Ireland is a leading voluntary organisation providing services for people with disabilities and their families.

Applications are invited for the the post of Basic Grade Clinical Psychologist.

Part time/Fixed Term (6 months) working 28 hours per week.


The successful candidate will be required to provide psychological services for individual clients, working within a multi-disciplinary team structure, supporting children and families.  The post involves working across a variety of teams, this includes Early Services (0-5 years), supporting children and adolescents in mainstream schools and Sandymount School ( 6 - 18 years).

Overall Purpose of the Post:

The post holder will be responsible for the provision of psychology services including assessment and intervention, to children and adolescents attending services at Enable Ireland, Sandymount.

 Professional Qualifications, Experience


  • Candidates must meet the requirements of the Psychological Society of Ireland.
  • Minimum of one year post qualification experience
  • Experience of working with children and their families and working in the disability sector.
  • Experience of working as part of a team.


  • Experience of inter/ trans-disciplinary team working.
  • Experience of Assessment of Need Process

 Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide a range of psychological services as required in partnership with children and families including assessment, review, programme implementation, behaviour management and diagnostics.
  • Promote and deliver services within the ethos and philosophy of Enable Ireland.
  • Work as a member of the inter-transdisciplinary team providing an integrated and coordinated service to children and their families and contribute to the development of person centred plans.
  • Provide advice/support programmes and training for parents and families.
  • Participate in training initiatives for Enable Ireland staff as required.
  • With the Team, maintain statistical records and input to service reports and other relevant reports as required.
  • Participate actively in general development of the service.
  • Ensure that professional standards are maintained.
  • Monitor and keep up-to-date with developments in Psychology and early intervention, including attending training courses and participating in research and development.
  • Participate in training on child protection issues as required.
  • Provide support to other staff as appropriate and supervise students/volunteers as required.
  • Contribute towards the ongoing development of the service as required.
  • Maintain quality standards within the service and participate in quality developments.
  • Comply with policies and procedures as advised.
  • Perform any other duties appropriate to the position from time to time.

 General Conditions

 Please note the following General Conditions:

  • Employees must attend fire lectures and drills periodically and must observe fire orders.
  • All accidents within the department must be reported immediately in line with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 1989 and all staff must comply with all safety regulations.
  • In line with the Tobacco Regulations Act 1990, smoking within Enable Ireland buildings is not permitted.

Terms and Conditions 

Responsible to:      Clinic Services Manager

Probation:                There is a probationary period of six months 

Salary:                       Department of Health and Children, Basic Grade Clinical Psychologist scale, payable monthly in arrears via Paypath.  This post is subject to the 10% reduction in pay rates to new entrants to the Health Service.

Annual leave:          34 days per annum for a fulltime post, pro rata for part time.

 Sick Leave:              There is no sick pay during the first nine months of continuous service.

 Medical:               The successful candidate will be required to undergo a medical.

 Garda Clearance/

Police Clearance    To comply with our child and vulnerable adult protection policies all prospective staff and volunteers must undergo a Garda and/or police clearance as appropriate prior to taking up employment.

 Pension Scheme:  Enable Ireland operates a contributory pension scheme which all members of staff may join on earlier of 1st July or 1st January following start date
