Deliver Automation & IT components of product tech transfers and capital projects in support of New Products Introduction (NPI) at Carlow. Responsible for supporting a culture of Continuous Improvement by deploying Merck Six Sigma tools within Automation & IT on projects in support of product tech transfer, platform capability enhancement, standardization, reducing cycle time, and lean principles within the process.Working as part of the Carlow Automation & IT group in partnership with the business owners provide reliable and robust Automation & IT solutions to enable efficient new product introductions across a variety of manufacturing systems such as PLC, DCS, MES, IT, and OEM systems. Represent Automation & IT at site / product / capital projects core teams. Responsible for overseeing an Automation & IT new products introduction organisation consisting of skilled automation and IT engineers. Facilitate projects scoping, estimate generation, approval and tals in unison with basis of design documentation preparation. Demonstrating the Merck leadership behaviours supervise a group of 5-15 contractors to ensure implementation in compliance with cGMP and System Lifecycle methodologies. Provide ongoing coaching and support to team members, to share technical knowledge and promote best practices onsite and within Automation & IT. In this client facing role as the Automation & IT projects lead, responsible for working closely with various site / central groups to ensure effective new product introductions. Carlow Automation & IT Group supports a large spectrum of sophisticated information systems within Manufacturing Operations; providing multiple opportunities to learn new technologies and make a positive impact on a state of the art Formulation and Filling facility.

Primary Activities include, but are not limited to:

· Responsible and accountable for delivery of all automation and IT components of New Product Introduction activities at Carlow

· Responsible for project management of Automation & IT New Product Introduction activities at Carlow to include schedule / cost adherence, monitoring, control and reporting at Carlow.Communicates periodically with stakeholders about NPI status

· Automation & IT representative on site / product and project core teams

· Active participation in the Tier process and enabling the Automation & IT team to proactively resolve technical issues before they impact the business priorities.

· Ensures adherence with Merck IT standards. Following business processes in the execution and support of Automation & IT systems in Carlow. Participates in audits and training programs in the area of responsibility. Liaise with site and external clients to ensure automation and IT systems implemented within the scope of new product introductions shall enable reliable supply.

Identify and implement process/equipment improvements and manufacturing efficiencies. Provide client services support for business area applications.



· At least five years' experience in the Pharmaceutical industry or a similar operating environment with experience in Technical/IT/Engineering/Process role in a manufacturing environment.

· At least three years' experience in the project management of automation and IT engineering activities in a fast moving and dynamic environment

· Knowledge of and experience in applying Lean Six Sigma, Lean methodologies and Technical excellence.

· The ability to take ownership for New Product Introductions components and follow through.

· Extensive technical and operational expertise in at least one of more of the following disciplines:

- Computer Systems Validation

- MIS Systems

- Business Systems

- Manufacturing Execution Systems

- Process Control Systems

- Instrumentation/Automation & Control

- BMS / SCADA / DCS Systems

- Control System/Shopfloor Integration

· Demonstrated ability to lead groups of contractors to achieve business results.

· Demonstrated self-motivation/direction skills with a continuous improvement focus.

· Process and technology background: the successful candidate will understand how to drive optimization.

· Demonstrated ability to realize improvement initiatives.

· Demonstrated successes in a team environment.

· Demonstrated high level of problem solving and facilitation skills.

· Stakeholder management of multi decision makers, colleagues, peers & cross functional teams.

· Good communication skills - Written, Oral & Presentation.

· Strategic Program Implementation.
