Assessment Manager - Veterinary

The department is responsible for assessing the safety and efficacy aspects of applications for the marketing authorisations and pharmacovigilance monitoring of veterinary products that are authorised for use in Ireland and across the EU. 

This includes pharmaceuticals, immunologicals and other technologies - which also includes monitoring antibiotic consumption. 

Ensuring the delivery of service which meets best international practice for both scientific robustness and customer service. 

Reporting to the Director of Veterinary Sciences - the role of the Assessment Manager is to 

  • Manage and Develop the Safety, Efficacy and Pharmacovigilance Assessment Team - currently 7 Scientific Assessors
  • Develop and Manage the processes
  • Lead on technical issues
  • Carry out assessments of certain applications and to peer review those carried out by other members of the team
  • To make recommendations for approval in relation to the licensing of veterinary medicines
  • Achieve required levels of performance
  • Respond effectively to changes from both the internal and external environments 

The Veterinary Assessment Manager is part of the departmental management team and manages the overall performance of the team by defining objectives, setting targets, coordinating activities, agreeing priorities, developing team members, providing technical advice, contributing to the assessments conducted, maintain effective communication lines whilst ensuring that the standards, policies and procedures are in place.

The successful individual will also be required to provide the leadership, motivation and encouragement needed to ensure the development and maintenance of a positive working environment 

A degree in veterinary medicine is required with extensive experience in preparing and peer reviewing scientific reports relating to the evaluation of the benefits/risks of veterinary medicinal products, biocidal or pesticidal products.

Experience of managing a multidisciplinary team and a working knowledge of EU and local legislation relating to the regulations of veterinary medicinal products are also prerequisites for this role.
