Sage provides business management software solutions to Irish businesses.

As a small company that has grown to be an international success it has never lost sight of the fact that it’s their people that underpin their achievement.

Sage say their goal is to be an “admired employer” so they have created an environment where individual talent is   recognised and rewarded.

They also provide their teams with training and development programmes to support  career progression and personal growth.

Sage is currently recruiting Sales, Customer Service and IT professionals so we thought we find out what’s it like to work with Sage.

We spoke to Darren Bracken who is the UKI Customer Services Team manager.

Describe your typical working day?

Hectic . My typical day would involve team meetings with stakeholders in the business, monitoring call queues and ensuring our people are in the right place at the right time to service our customers.

I would typically have team meetings and 121 meetings with individuals in my team to discuss performance to date, development opportunities and what we can do to assist them. I also have a team in Newcastle that I visit once a week.

What is your background?

I am currently availing of educational sponsorship that Sage offers and studying for a degree in Business Management.

Prior to working in Sage I studied outdoor pursuits, I then came to Sage through Jobsbridge and was lucky to have worked within Customer Support as a technician, trainer, coach and now as a Manager.

What is the best thing about your job?

The people, in Sage all of my team pull together to work towards a common goal, the people here are passionate, driven and hard working. I have had multiple mentors in Sage that are really passionate about developing others.

What is the biggest challenge?

Ensuring that we provide an extraordinary experience for our customers.

What other skills do you need in your job?

You need to be organised, personable, passionate, customer focused and want to develop others.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time

When I started in Sage my 5 year plan was to become a team manager I have managed to achieve that within 3 years so I have now set my sights at becoming the next head of customer services.

What advice would you give someone considering a career in your profession?

Stay positive, ensure that you are passionate about people and don’t be afraid to get stuck in.

If you apply yourself and show enthusiasm Sage is a wonderful place to work those two things are the key to starting off a successful career within our business.
