John Merrigan works with Aerogen in Galway as a Design Engineer, he told us more about his job and what Aerogen has to offer ambitious candidates.
Describe your typical working day?
My typical working day allows me to undertake a wide variety of tasks, from front end research and development right through to releasing and sustaining commercial products. I enjoy the variety of work as it prevents my role becoming monotonous.
What are your qualifications?
I possess a BA in Product Design from IT Carlow and a MSc in Medical Device Design from NCAD/UCD.
Tell us about your previous work experience?
I took up my position in Aerogen as a graduate engineer, although I had gained some industrial experience through my MSc, working on five projects for companies based within the Irish Medical Device Industry. I also worked as an R & D intern in Vascocare Medical, a company based around innovative patient positioning devices.

What is the best thing about your job?
Using my design skills to create innovative nebuliser devices to improve the quality of life of patients.
And the biggest challenge?
Adapting to new challenges, specifically on the regulatory side, although I really enjoy increasing and honing my knowledge in order to be part of the rewarding Medical Device sector.
What advice would you give someone considering applying for a job with your company?
