Introduction
Dublin Business School together with Microsoft Ireland have developed a Level 6 Special Purpose Award for a Certificate in Fundamentals of Database and Cloud Technologies. This programme is specifically designed to assist participants in Springboard in obtaining jobs in the areas of Database Administration, Database Development and Business Intelligence Development.
Programme Aims and Objectives
The following modules on this programme have been designed specifically to provide the targeted skills needed to keep pace with employers.

Embedded in the modules above are a number of transferable skills which are relevant to all occupations. They include technological literacy, organisation skills in terms of applying theory in practice, team working, initiative and adaptability. Conceptual thinking skills also form part of each module and include problem solving, planning & organising, learning to learn skills, innovation and creative skills. People related skills are also needed to success complete modules as team working and communication skills are key requirements.
Programme Structure
This programme has two distinct elements; participants complete 3 modules: Database Design, Business Computing and Web Authoring & Design and can then successfully complete the Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) certification in Database Administration Fundamentals. By partnering with Microsoft Ireland, DBS can provide a unique proposition for participants on the Springboard programme. Participants will not only earn a Level 6 Special Purpose Award, but they will also become a Microsoft Technology Associate upon completion of the Microsoft exam.
Teaching & Assessment
DBS teaching and learning strategies are intended to facilitate students to take ownership of, and responsibility for, their own learning in partnership with the academic faculty. Intellectual skills are developed through project work, tutorial work and coursework assignments.

Much emphasis will be placed on practically focused continuous assessment. Additionally, a blend of individual and group assessment is used to help students develop the skills of working individually and as part of a team.

This Certificate programme encompasses both the technical skills and knowledge needed to succeed in the ICT and cloud environment, as well as the transferable skills that are relevant in all sectors of the economy. By successfully completing this Certification participants are showing employers a commitment to advancing their skills and taking on greater challenges.
Entry Requirements
- Holders of a Level 5 NFQ award or equivalent, or
- Mature entry for students who are over 21 years of age at time of application and are assessed on the basis of age, work experience, general education standard, motivation and commitment to the programme for which they are applying
