Lidl Ireland GmbH

Lidl Ireland GmbH

Lidl is one of the fastest growing retailers in Europe, trading in more than 20 countries and operating in excess of 8,000 stores.

We opened our first store in Northern Ireland in 1999 which was followed quickly in 2000 with our first store in the Republic of Ireland.

Today we operate stores in 170 locations throughout the island of Ireland. Our four Regional Distribution Centres in Charleville, Newbridge, Mullingar and Belfast directly support all of our stores.

Lidl is an equal opportunities employer and employs more than 4,000 people in Ireland and Northern Ireland.  We acknowledge that our success has only been achieved through our hard-working and committed people. We aim to recruit individuals who have the ability to multi-task and enjoy working on their own initiative as part of a highly motivated and enthusiastic team.

We are proud that we have been listed within the top 10 in GradIreland’s Top 100 leading Graduate Employers for the second year running. Not only this, but in 2014 and 2015 we were also voted as the No. 1 Graduate Employer in the Retail Sector.

Culture Change - A false horizon.

The Best Bits

The company pay competitively, and there are opportunities to progress and move within the company.

Things to improve

The current drive for positive culture change within the company is admirable, but has not transitioned into the day to day operations for many employees within the company. There are high rates of stress among staff in the company due to the abnormal and inconsiderate pressures placed upon them by management. I feel that many long term employees have acquired financial responsibilities on par with the highly competitive salaries on offer in the company and therefore find it difficult to leave Lidl and find equal compensation elsewhere. There are many positions within the company where the work / life balance is horrendous and frankly not worth the money. I know that the powers that be within Lidl are aware of the concerns I have outlined here, but their business model is based on tight control of productivity, therefore despite the drive to up-skill staff and management and equip them with the skills required to succeed, very little will change.
