Camara is a dynamic charity that uses technology to improve education in Africa. Started four years ago, Camara is now at the forefront of delivering Technology-enhanced Learning (TeL) to some of the poorest people in the world. It does this by installing computer labs in schools and colleges in Sub-Saharan Africa and by training the teachers how to use these computers as educational tools.

Camara's European operations are head-quartered in The Digital Hub in Dublin and its African head quarters are in Kampala Uganda. It has a regional centre in Belfast and is looking to further expand its activities in the UK. Our operations in Africa are carried out through a network of Hubs in seven African countries: Ethiopia; Kenya; Lesotho; Rwanda; Tanzania; Uganda; and Zambia.

The unique entrepreneurial spirit of Camara and its people is demonstrated by the series of presitious awards that have been conveyed on it since its inception in 2005. These awards include: David Manly Emerging Entrepreneur Award; Social Entrepreneur Ireland Level 2; and the Vodafone World of Difference Award. Camara has also been profiled on the RTE News and in much of the national media.

Camara is in the second year of its five year '1,000 Schools' program ,whose main goals are to:
  • Supply 1,000 African schools per year with a fully functional computer lab
  • Promote Technology-enhanced Learning to the teachers and students in those schools.

In order to do this Camara is looking to expand its senior management team with key appointments in the finance, sales and development areas. Camara Education Liited is a registered Irish Charity (CHY 16922) supported by the Irish Government, The EU and by charitable donations.
