Description

Software Engineer XML Specialist (Java, UNIX, scripting)

My client makes network monitoring software for the mobile telecoms industry – their product based on a JBoss master server and multiple JGroups based slave servers, each of which collect high volume transaction (in the order of 250,000+ events per minute) data from the GSM and 3G network. This data is stored in a multi-terabyte Oracle 10/11g database server.The product uses XML based models to represent and aggregate data coming from the network in an intelligent way. From customers point of view requested data is displayed by the product's GUI

The role will primarily focus on the development and maintenance of the XML models used within the product.The right person will play a key role in development of new functionality, extending existing functionality and troubleshooting issues.Perm or contract on offer

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for developing/maintaining and troubleshooting product components.
Understand product enhancements under development, as well as requirements behind
the product enhancements and translate into high quality functioning software.
Development of unit tests for all code written and ensuring code is of high quality.
Documentation of new processes and the maintenance of related documents as necessary.

Requirements: Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong experience/knowledge of XML and complex logic handling within XML.
Excellent UNIX command line knowledge and skills: awk, sed, etc.
Very good UNIX scripting skills, text processing/parsing: Bash, Perl etc.
Good SQL and database knowledge - Oracle - SQL/PLSQL.
Very good understanding of HTTP, FTP, DNS, and email protocols, etc.
Strong experience with HTML, CSS, Javascript.
A good working knowledge of Java (J2EE).
Mobile Telecommunications knowledge a big advantage (GSM, GPRS, UMTS, LTE)
