Role Description

 

As a Principal Software Engineer you have worked in software development for a minimum of 8 years.  You have demonstrated expertise in a number of specialist areas and are considered a subject matter expert in at least one of these.  You have deep domain knowledge within the industry in which you operate.

 

You have an expert knowledge of software development methodologies and are able to apply this knowledge to establish software development teams and deliver software requirements to within time and quality constraints.

 

You have in-depth understanding and experience of Agile development methodologies and assisting teams in their adoption.

 

You have established yourself as an expert in your field across the business and lead in creative discussions with the client.

 

You effectively leverage resources within and outside of your team to deliver exceptional results. You are a skilled motivator and act as an inspirational figure for your team, constantly pushing them to deliver to the best of their ability. You take a keen interest in your team’s professional development and are seen as a trusted mentor.

 

You take an innovative approach to how we deliver software, constantly searching for improvements in our development process.

 

Requirements

 

    • Undergraduate degree or equivalent in software development, scientific or other relevant discipline.

 

    • 5+ years experience of developing software using enterprise Java.

 

    • 5+ years of working within an Agile development environment utilising methods such as Scrum or XP, ideally with responsibility for coaching team members in Agile methods.

 

    • Strong understanding of systems architecture and how this is used to ensure that solutions are both robust and tolerant of subsequent changes in requirements.

 

    • Strong understanding of Design Patterns (particularly the GOF and EAI patterns catalogues).

 

    • 2+ years experience of systems integration tools and technologies such as JMS, ESB, Web Services, REST etc

 

    • 3+ years experience of dependency injection containers such as Spring, Google Guice etc.

 

    • 2+ years experience of using Object Relational Mapping tools such as Hibernate, iBatis etc.

 

    • 2+ years of database schema design including normalisation, de-normalisation and query performance analysis.

 

    • 3+ years experience of applying test driven development techniques using frameworks such as JUnit, TestNG, Mockito, PowerMock etc.

 

    • 3+ years experience of developing automated acceptance tests using frameworks such as Selenium, FIT, Fitnesse etc.

 

    • 2+ years experience of managing a continuous integration environment such as Cruise Control, Jenkins/Hudson, Bamboo etc.

 

  • 1+ years experience of code quality reporting using tools such as Checkstyle, PMD, Sonar etc.
