Job Description

In the hiring of a Data Centre Technician, we are looking for an individual with experience across the following four core competencies:

Linux Administration:
• Boot Process
• GRUB/LILO
• File Systems
• Network device and protocol configuration
• Directory Structure
• Performance Management/Troubleshooting
• Base Operating System Install
• Scripting; Perl, Python, Bash
• TCP/IP Concepts

Computer/Server Hardware:
• HP/Compaq Proliant Servers - possess or obtain within three months of hire, an APS certification on the Proliant products.
• Knowledge of the x86 platform & SAN architecture
• RAID
• SAN
• Fault Isolation
• x86
• SCSI

Networking:
• Experience with Cisco's Cat & Native IOS
• Switch configuration & troubleshooting
• Copper cable termination.
• Understanding of fiber optic cabling.
• Experience with Cisco 6500, 3700 & 7600 Series equipment.

Candidates need not be experts in all of the above, but the ideal candidate would have experience with at least two of the above & show the willingness & aptitude to learn what is required to become adequately skilled in the other competencies.

The position also has a physical component requiring the ability to lift & rack equipment; it may require working in cramped spaces or in elevated locations while adhering to health & safety guidelines.

Data Centre Technicians are also required to wear a pager for communication, information, emergency & on-call situations.
